Various - Devastate To Liberate


With a Big Thanks to Bondurant2001 here's another excellent 80's compilation album, a mix of experimental, punk and minimal synth bands. Devastate To Liberate was released on Yangki (YANGKI 1) in 1985, Limited edition release packaged in a sleeve with cover art by Steven Stapleton as well as an insert. Benefit album for the Animal Liberation Front.

This is the Holy Grail of compilation albums from those days. Some essential music highlighted by my favoite Current 93 track ever. This was actually the style that i thought Tibet would continue with. I don't care for his folkish musings or his singing. I dunno have I just committed the unforgivable sin?
The album cover is one of the best, the texure for those who didn't have the benifit of actually touching or seeing was a rough suede like surface. Beautiful

I believe this is the copy of the album I uploaded to the torrent site Demonoid about a year or two ago. In which case, you should probably note that the two P16.D4 tracks aren't the same as those on the compilation… same titles, but the ones I used were from the band and set at the correct speed; the original comp had a mastering error that made those tracks superfast. Just thought I should note this.

Been after the Shock Headed Peters' track (a Residents cover FFS!) for absolutely AGES. Not disappointed in the slightest, great LP all 'round actually. Thanks for bothering... IBx
